Dean of Students
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:
As Dean of Students, I look forward to helping to ensure a safe, productive, and enjoyable school experience for all of the boys in our care.
As a native of Philadelphia, my undergraduate work in secondary education was done at Temple University and I have completed graduate studies in education and in theology at La Salle University. My experience in the field of education has been as a teacher at the middle school and high school level and principal at the elementary level.
My overall objective as Dean of Students is to lead our boys in the direction of becoming young men of self-discipline. I expect that some of our students will possess already the level of maturity necessary to evidence such power, and these young men will have the opportunity to enjoy certain privileges and roles of leadership here at school. Other students will certainly need our support and guidance as they work toward developing a sense of self-discipline. It is important, I believe, that while recognizing and respecting the necessity of a handbook, it is preferable that our allegiance be directed even beyond that – to the community in which we are living and learning. Ultimately, our actions should reflect our respect for and commitment to each other as we seek to live the spirit of the law that is beyond the letter of the law.
I ask all of our gentlemen to remember that the disciplinary program in place exists to foster in you strength of mind and character that will empower you to develop the self-discipline necessary for school success at Phelps and personal success in the life that lies beyond the campus.
Finally, I commend all of the boys who have committed themselves to attending The Phelps School. Your commitment to this program that seeks to promote academic and personal growth is an indication of your desire to develop the skills and character that will make you a person of success. Our goal is to do all we can to help you in this endeavor.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Charles Kimble
