Dear Parents,
We wish you and your family a relaxing and fun summer. During this time, your son is required to read one book from the Summer Reading List, according to his incoming grade level.
Upon his return to school in September, he will be required to present an oral book report in front of his English teacher. These oral reports will occur during the first two days of class. If he is unprepared to deliver his oral report at that time, he will be required to attend afternoon reading sessions until it is completed.
In order for your son to be prepared for his oral book report, we are asking for your help. Please fill out the statements that follow and return the original of this letter to my attention no later than September 1, 2007. Keep a copy for your records in case there are any questions.
Thank you for helping your son to begin the 2007–08 school year on a positive note.

Assistant Headmaster for Academics
