Team America Rocketry Challenge 2007
On April 7, 2007, The Phelps School rocket team submitted their qualification score for the Team America Rocketry Challenge. Schools from across the United States enter this annual competition vying for $60,000.00 in prize money. The challenge is to loft an egg carried onboard a model rocket to an altitude of 850 feet with a total flight time of 45 seconds and return the egg unbroken.
The top 100 teams are invited to Arlington, Virginia on May 19th to compete in the national finals. Qualifying teams will be announced on April 13th.
The Phelps Bullet “Old 46” achieved an altitude of 752 feet with a total flight time of 48.94 seconds and no egg damage. Weather conditions were unusually cold, with heavy air and gusty winds. The team believes the Bullet will be a superior performer with warmer temperatures and calmer days in May.
Team members Jon Biesemeyer, Brian Bachinsky, Justin Czajkowski, Jerry Frazier, Jin Ho Ko, and Chip Myers, under the direction of team advisor Michael Herman and technical advisor Skip Turansky await the final results.
