F. Christopher Chirieleison, Headmaster of The Phelps School, is pleased to announce the appointment of Edward M. Kowalchick as the School’s Associate Headmaster of Residential Life.  Mr. Chirieleison released the announcement with the following statement, “This is a seminal moment in the history of The Phelps School.  To have the opportunity to welcome onboard an educator such as Mr. Kowalchick, whose depth and breadth of experience rival the most accomplished independent school administrators, is a remarkable event.”  He continued, “Having known Ed for more than twenty years, I can attest to his unparalleled dedication to the process of educating young men which I know will have an immediate and positive impact on The Phelps School’s overall program.  A man of impeccable character and genuine kindness, he will play a pivotal role in the advancement of the School’s mission.

Mr. Kowalchick has been an independent school educator for more than thirty years.  During this time, he has been a teacher, coach, head of dorm, director of summer programs, director of admissions, assistant head of school, vice president of a university, and headmaster.  A popular speaker at workshops, seminars, and conferences, Mr. Kowalchick has helped many excellent residential schools in the United States and Canada assess their residential programs and develop comprehensive strategic plans for curriculum and marketing.  Additionally, he co-authored the book Building a Residential Curriculum.  Mr. Kowalchick is married to Patricia who is a highly respected and accomplished educator, as well. 

He will begin his duties in June of 2007.
