Community Service

Salvation Army

Our boys help stock and organize the food kitchen at the Salvation Army.  This enables many people to have food on their plates.

The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk

In October, we are fortunate to be able to work at Penn’s Landing at the Light the Night Walk. We help local vendors set up, we entertain local children, we serve food to the public, and we participate in the actual walk itself.

Home of the Sparrow

This is a local domestic shelter.  The boys help take care of the grounds and complete small chores around the house.  This is a great help to all of the residents.

Willistown Police

Each year we have the opportunity to plant flowers around our local police station.  The police officers work with us, and it is a day filled with fun.

Local Schools

Our boys work closely throughout the school year with children in grades Pre-K to 1st.  Some of the activities are in the classroom and occur one on one.  The boys also organize and participate in a field day at the end of the year for over 100 children.

Martin Luther King Day of Service

Every year on Martin Luther King Day, our school participates in the MLK Day of Service.  This is a day where several organizations in our area give back to the community keeping Martin Luther King’s values in mind. This year we went to our local park and picked up litter.  This made the park nicer for the children in the local neighborhood.  All were grateful.

The Paoli Library

Each year we help organize the local library.  We help stack books and throw away out-dated materials.  This is just one way that we give back to our community.

Philabundance Food Bank

Each class volunteers at the Food Bank once a year.  We sort food, make packages for senior citizens, and help pack boxes for the local soup kitchen.

Project Recreation

The boys continued Project Recreation this year.  This program asked people to send recreation items such as checker boards, snacks, footballs, DVDs, and other items.  We packed and sent thirteen large boxes to Iraq.  The boys also had a chance to correspond with the soldiers, and we sent many letters in our packages to them.  We also included pins and letters that are reading buddies did together.

Operation Christmas Child

Through Operation Christmas Child, we fill large shoe boxes with hygiene items and small toys.  All of these contributions made it possible for children to enjoy their Holiday.

The Blood Drive

Every year The Phelps School hosts its own blood drive.  The students and faculty invite neighbors to participate in the drive, they help run the drive, and several donate.  Last year our goal was to obtain 50 pints from the drive; we obtained 55 pints.  According to statistics, The Phelps School was able to help 165 different people through their donations.

The Phelps School Community Service Day

For the last three years we have hosted The Phelps School Community Service Day.  This day is dedicated to giving back to the community.  The students work on and off campus to help the local community.  This year the students will go to the local food bank, work in several schools, plant with the police, work at a local domestic shelter, and participate in park and road clean-ups. Every faculty member and student participates in this service, and it is rewarding to all involved.

Community Service Day at Purnell School

Each year we team up with students at Purnell School and take part in a day of community service.  Our students enjoy spending time with the young ladies at Purnell and taking part in numerous service related activities.  Some of the activities include decorating holiday cards for the homebound, putting together snack packs for a local food bank, tying breast cancer awareness ribbons and cleaning up Purnell’s campus.  This is a great day for our boys to socialize with an all-girls school while serving others.
