I have been employed by The Phelps School for almost ten years, and I thoroughly enjoy my position as Business Manager. My background is in education and business; I have a B.A. and Pennsylvania Certification in Elementary Education.
I live in Malvern. I have two sons, both practicing attorneys: Doug who lives outside of Washington, DC with his wife Kristen, a school teacher, and Chip who lives in Germany with his wife Alev. My hobbies include reading, gardening, cooking, knitting and needlework. My home is "guarded" by Annie, a small mixed breed, and Ellie, a golden retriever.
Hello and welcome to The Phelps School website. I am looking forward to my ninth year here at Phelps as a dorm parent and teacher. My wife Elena and I live in Lower Gains Hall with our three cats Martha, George and Petunia.
I graduated in 1997 from West Chester University with a degree in secondary education and certification to teach social studies and have since taken graduate courses through Immaculata University to add certification in special education. I also serve as the chairperson of the History Department here at Phelps and will be teaching American History I as well as Government and Psychology this year.
I am looking forward to another rewarding and exciting year as a member of the Phelps community.
My name is Jack Power and I teach World History II and American History III here at the Phelps school. I am a dorm parent of Hilltop. I graduated Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 2004 with a bachelors and state certification in secondary education. This is my first year at the Phelps school. I have previously taught for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
I help moderate the student government and coach cross country here at Phelps. I grew up in Springfield Delaware County, PA. I am the oldest of four, my youngest brother being 10. I am a graduate of Devon Preparatory School where I was involved in sports and many other community activities. I am excited to be teaching in area where I spent a good deal of my adolescent youth. My hobbies are sports, movies, being outside and occasionally getting involved in some heated political debate. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Matthew J. Scavitto was recently graduated from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York in December 2006 with a BA in Education and History. Prior to attending Hofstra, Matt spent fourteen years at The Haverford School where he was a lifer. Matt wrote for school newspaper and yearbook while spending time being an integral part of the 'Big Buddy Program.' At Haverford, Matt played for soccer, basketball, and baseball teams throughout his tenure in high school. After he finished his studies at Hofstra, Matt spent the winter and spring months of 2006/07 teaching at his Alma Mater The Haverford School and coaching baseball.
During the summer months, Matt spends his time in New Hampshire at Camp Tecumseh. He has been part of the Tecumseh family since 1994 when he began attending camp as a camper. Matt works vigorously on the soccer, baseball, basketball, and tennis staffs and is a cabin head.
With this being Matt's first full year in the classroom, he looks to bring to new and exciting enthusiastic methods to The Phelps School. He will serve as a history teacher teaching two sections of Geography and three sections of American History II. Along with teaching, Matt will serve as the Varsity head soccer and baseball coach and be on the athletic advisement committee.
