The Phelps School is proud to announce the accomplishments of one of our students, Xin Yuan (Sam) Chen. Earlier this year, Sam scored a perfect 800 on the Math Section II of the SAT test. This section is even more demanding than the typical math portion of the SAT. In addition, Sam was one of two Phelps students who took the AP Calculus BC exam in May (ten others took the Calculus AB test). On average, only 2 students in 1000 even take the Calculus BC test. Amazingly, Sam took the exam in his junior year and achieved a score of 5 (the highest possible). And if that weren’t enough, he decided to take an independent study to prepare for the AP Physics: Electricity and Magnetism exam. In the U.S., only 4 students in 10,000 take this test. To his credit, once again Sam managed to attain the highest possible score of 5. Needless to say, Sam is a well-respected member of our community and certainly exemplifies the adage, “You get out of it what you put into it.” Congratulations Sam; we are extremely proud of you!
