About Phelps
Welcome to Phelps!
Since 1946, The Phelps School has been dedicated to the individual boy. We are a diverse, close-knit community — over 100 students, boarding and day, sixth grade to seniors and postgraduates, and their dedicated faculty mentors. We share a vital goal: to help students become better learners. We help boys become better men.
Our Mission
Our mission is to bring out the best in each boy, to help him earn new confidence and respect, to teach him about leadership, humility, and service to others. Boys succeed at Phelps in small classes, with teachers who will not let them give up. They learn how to learn. Their full potential is maximized as they grow and transform physically, socially, and morally. They build supportive relationships and develop a real sense of family with young men who are all quite different, and, in many ways, so much alike. Our mission is to help each Phelps boy become a better man.
A distinctive strength at Phelps is the supplemental Academic Support Program (ASP) for boys with diagnosed learning differences.
We are a CHROMEBOOK school with a 1-to-1 student-computer ratio. We prepare boys for learning in the 21st century.
Our Values
Students come to Phelps from around the world. Their gifts and talents, like their personalities and backgrounds, are diverse and enriching. At Phelps we value that individuality above all else. Each student faces his own challenges and sets his own goals. Bright boys who learn differently discover their true capabilities. Courses of study are personally tailored. Support for learning is consistent and effective. The sense of brotherhood — in dorm life, the dining hall, weekend activities, and sports — is pervasive, genuine, and life-changing.
We offer several tuition payment options, financial aid and scholarships to help you afford a Phelps education for your son.
Phelps alumni are working across the country as successful business owners, CEO’s, doctors and civil servants.
Our Method
An educational paradigm focused on developing the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) while sustaining a young man’s need for:
-Independence
-Structure
-Individual Achievement
-Team-oriented Success

Imagine for a moment that your son has begun to have difficulty finding success at his current school. Perhaps he is struggling academically, socially, or even behaviorally. Regardless of the specific reason for your concern about his performance in school, the bigger picture is clear: it is imperative that a change be made immediately to help get his young life back on track. As you begin to look at potential new schools, you discover a school, The Phelps School, that you believe requires a visit.
