Tuition Assistance—A Partnership

While a Phelps education is a valuable investment that offers lifelong benefits, we understand that affording independent school tuition can be a challenge. At many independent schools, tuition assistance is seen as a discount or a way to reduce tuition costs for families. At Phelps, we take a different approach. We view tuition assistance as the school’s contribution to your son’s success. By combining both the family’s and the school’s contributions, we form an investment partnership that ensures every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Phelps School utilizes School and Student Services (SSS) to assess a family’s financial need. This evaluation is based on the information provided in the application, including assets, income, expenses, and debts.

In order to be considered for tuition assistance, parents are asked to fill out the SSS. For international students, please utilize this international financial aid application.

Review of Tuition Assistance applications happens once your family has completed the process and all required documents are present.
Tuition Assistance decisions for all families are released with their admissions decision letter.

Tuition assistance awards are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If your family is considering a Phelps education, we encourage you to begin your application today. The steps to completing the application for financial aid are listed below.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

Step 1: Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS)

Complete a PFS online at School and Student Services (SSS) as soon after November 1st as possible. The school code for The Phelps School is 3863.

In the case of separation or divorce, the non-custodial parent must complete a second PFS Form as soon as possible. We also require the tax documentation, referenced below, of the non-custodial parent. If the second parent is not financially responsible for the student in question, legal documentation stating this fact is required.

Complete the SSS Business/Farm Statement if parent or parents own businesses or farms. Return this form to the Financial Aid office along with your Profit and Loss Statement.

The Financial Aid Committee will make an award after a thorough evaluation of all documents has been conducted. The notification letter will be mailed as soon as the process is completed. The Phelps School reserves the right to adjust or repeal financial aid awards for any student whose academic or disciplinary record becomes unsatisfactory to the school’s administration.
